Droplet Transmission

By

Updated September 18, 2013

Definition:

Droplet transmission occurs when oral or nasal secretions infected with an illness enter the eyes, nose or mouth of another person. The secretions are most commonly passed through coughing or sneezing; this is the way the flu and many viruses are spread.

The term droplet transmission describes how germs spread from one person to another.

Examples:
Alex came to school coughing and sneezing. When he played with Bryan, he coughed in his face and a few days later, Bryan was sick as well. Alex's cold was passed to Bryan through droplet transmission.
