The CDC is a U.S. government agency that focuses on public health. The letters CDC stand for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to their website, the CDC's mission is "to collaborate to create the expertise, information, and tools that people and communities need to protect their health – through health promotion, prevention of disease, injury and disability, and preparedness for new health threats".

The CDC's main office is located in Atlanta, GA, but they have offices or employees in 54 countries around the world.

The CDC has set goals to improve the health of all Americans. These include:

  • healthy people in every stage of life
  • healthy people in healthy places
  • people prepared for emerging health threats
  • healthy people in a healthy world
