Vomiting and Diarrhea
There are all kinds of viruses going around right now. Whether it is the flu, a cold or a stomach bug, chances are you or someone you know has been sick recently. So what do you do if you are vomiting and have diarrhea? First, it is important to know what the differences are between the flu (influenza) and the "stomach flu", or gastroenteritis.
Next, you should determine what you need to do for yourself or your child who is vomiting or having diarrhea.

Finally, you may want to try to determine the cause of the symptoms. Many stomach viruses are short lived (from 24 hours to 3 days), but others, like rotavirus, may last up to two weeks. While the treatment for these illnesses is pretty much the same, your doctor may be able to determine the cause.
The biggest concern with any vomiting or diarrhea illness is the risk of dehydration. It is important to keep hydrated even if you don't feel like eating.

It is also important to let your stomach have a “rest” if you are vomiting. You won’t get dehydrated immediately, and it’s better to eat and drink nothing for a period of hours and to re-introdouce fluids SLOWLY to see if it can be kept down. Don’t be too quick to try to eat and drink things.
