Sanitizer and Airborne
- Not to sound like a commercial or anything, but I take Airborne when I'm airborne. (It's a vitamin supplement.) I hate the circulating air, and this seems to work for me, even if some of its effectiveness is pure placebo. (Who knows?) I also carry hand sanitizer and use it on myself and my kids like a crazy person. Better safe than sorry.

Stay Hydrated
- When traveling, I make sure that my whole family drinks lots of water. This helps to keep the sinuses moist and less vulnerable to all the weird bugs we might encounter.

Eat Well and Stay Fit
- It may seem so obvious, but the best way to stay healthy is to eat healthy (and delicious) food. It's always tempting to just stop at a local store and buy junk food, but if you bring your own healthy foods along in a cooler, you'll feel better and you'll save money as well. Hard-boiled eggs travel well, and you can also bring along zippered bags of cashews, pecans, sunflowers, raisins and other good snacks. Apples and pears transport well, but softer fruits like bananas obviously do not. If you're on vacation, rent a condo so you can prepare some of your own meals. Whole wheat or rice spaghetti travels well, and you can just buy some local, organic vegetables at the place where you're staying. Garlic is said to be a powerful, natural antibiotic and it's a great addition to your meals (and you know what they say about garlic and vampires!) Drink plenty of water, eat good food and remember to exercise, and you'll stay healthy and happy on your next vacation or business trip.

Take a Decongestant Before Flying
- The risk of barotrauma and ear infections are greater on an airplane but you can reduce your risk of ear problems by taking a decongestant before take off.

Hand Sanitizer - All The Time
- I carry hand sanitizer in my purse wherever I go. That way I know that I can get my hands and my kid's hands clean before we eat, even if we don't have a sink available. We try not to make too many stops when we are traveling, so if we stop at a drive-thru to get something to eat, we don't have the opportunity to wash our hands. When we have hand sanitizer available, at least I know our hands will be clean before we eat.
