Pneumonia is a serious illness that should be diagnosed and treated early. Although it is fairly common, it can be a life threatening illness.

These are just some of the symptoms of pneumonia. A person with pneumonia will probably not have all of these symptoms because some are more related to specific types of pneumonia. However, if you have one or more of these symptoms, and are concerned that you may have pneumonia, you should see your doctor as soon as possible. A chest x-ray is usually necessary to diagnose pneumonia -- and early treatment is important.

Productive or Moist Cough

Painful or Frequent Cough

Feeling Tired or Weak (Fatigue)

Chest Pain

Fever

Chills or Shaking and Chattering Teeth

Headache

Nausea and Vomiting

Blue or Grayish Coloring Around the Mouth and Lips

Confusion or Altered Mental State

This is uncommon but possible with bacterial pneumonia.
