Definition:

Pseudoephedrine, or PSE, is a commonly used over the counter decongestant. It is used to help loosen and relieve congestion in the nose, sinuses and head.

Because pseudoephedrine is one of the main raw ingredients used to make illegal methamphetamines, it is now available only behind the pharmacy counter.

To obtain a box of PSE, you must ask the pharmacist, show an ID and sign for it. There is a limit on the amount of PSE that one person may purchase at a time.

  • PSE, or pseudoephedrine, is sold under the brand name Sudafed and is also available in generic form.
  • PSE is found in several medications that treat multiple symptoms. These medications are also located behind the pharmacy counter.
