Definition:

The FDA stands for the "Food and Drug Administration." The FDA is a U.S. agency that oversees medications, food safety, cosmetics, medical and veterinary products and much more. They are "responsible for ensuring that foods are safe, wholesome and sanitary; human and veterinary drugs, biological products and medical devices are safe and effective; cosmetics are safe; and electronic products that emit radiation are safe."

The FDA does not regulate advertising, alcohol, consumer products (such as household appliances, paint and toys), illegal street drugs, health insurance, meat and poultry (except game meats, which are regulated by the FDA), pesticides, restaurants, grocery stores and water.
