Definition: A slippery substance produced by mucous membranes in the body to moisten surfaces. When we get respiratory infections, an excessive amount of mucus is produced often causing congestion and discharge.
Also Known As: phlegm, congestion

Examples:
When I got a cold, I constantly had mucus draining down the back of my throat.
