Follow me on:

Pneumonia is a common complication of many upper respiratory viruses - including the cold and flu. Millions of people die from pneumonia each year, it is not an illness to take lightly. Although it is most serious for young children and elderly adults, it can be a significant and painful infection for anyone.

So how do you know if you have pneumonia? It is typically diagnosed based on an exam by your health care provider, the way your lungs and breathing sounds and the results of a chest x-ray. Treatment options vary based on what type of pneumonia you have and how severe the infection is.
