NIVW: Chronic Breathing Issues

By December 4, 2012

Follow me on:

The flu is primarily a respiratory illness and this can mean big trouble for people who already have breathing issues. People with chronic breathing problems such as asthma, COPD, emphysema, cystic fibrosis and other chronic breathing problems can suffer serious complications from the flu. Taking steps to prevent it is really important if you already have breathing issues.

Although many people have concerns about the safety and efficacy of the flu vaccine, studies have repeatedly shown that they are safe and effective at protecting people from the flu. They won't protect you from every illness that could make you sick during cold and flu season, but they generally do a good job at preventing influenza if the strains that are circulating are the same as the strains that are included in the vaccine. It is the quickest and best line of defense against the flu and if you are at high risk, it's your best option.
