What Is the 24 Hour Flu?

By July 20, 2012

Follow me on:

Many people talk about getting a 24 hour flu or a 24 hour bug, but what exactly are they talking about? Is there really a virus that can give you the flu for only 24 hours?

While it would be nice if the flu only lasted for 24 hours, true influenza is not what most people are referring to when they talk about a 24 hour virus. Usually it's the vomiting and diarrhea type virus that so many people call "the flu" even though it really isn't. But even the viruses that cause these types of illnesses and symptoms vary greatly in their severity and duration.

If you are curious, you can find all the information you need about the "24 hour flu" and how it's different from the real flu, as well as tips on treating it if you happen to come down with the dreaded bug.

Sorry lady but your VERY WRONG! I know cause i just had it. I had no symptoms of a cold nor flu 2 days ago, but became aware two coworkers were dealing with a cold. One worker had severe sinus issues, but recovered after taking some potent medicine. A day ago i came in contact with a guy that sneezed out of the blue, normally i hold my breath and move away. Still i had no symptoms, yesterday it started with nasal blockage then i began feeling tired and generally uncomfotable, my body couldnt maintaine a balanced temporature, then the nasal blockage increased as the usual cold symptoms increases hourly, i decieded to go home and rest, at hat point my synus begame all conjested, my face forehead and gums began to hurt intensly, all night long i had cold sweats, my head was in pain and went thru an entire roll of paper towels blowing my nose. It was severly terrrible. Both a cold and the flu. Going from cold sweats to fever on an hourly basis. I took 2 one a day pills , 2 or 3 antioxidants and 2 fish oil pills. Thru the night i took 3 hot showers to temporarily bring nasal relief. At 9 in the morning the next day the symptoms subsided. After continuly blowing my nose and getting rid of mucus, the fever/chills subsided. And now the the symptoms are almost all but gone. Yes all this in 24hrs or less! Its very real very true and i never want to experience it again, And i cant help but think, this virus is some man made mutated strand.

I had this exact same thing, just like the flu I got when i was a kid, no stomach symptoms whatsoever, but after about 24 hours and breaking out in a sweat, temperature went down, nose still feels a little congested but aches and pains, and fever gone. I did have the flu shot last year when they first came available, but what I have had the last 24 hours seemed just like the old fashioned flu.

Similar illness about once a month for the last 3 months. The most recent episode started after eating at a restaurant and did involve a little vomiting, but I attributed that to being over-full (though I didn’t eat that much), both previous episides had no stomach involvement at all. The only stymptoms were stuffiness, sore throat, fever and aches and pains and headache. All three times started in the early evening and subsided during the night. Felt fine in the morning except for a headache and general weakness, subsiding during the day.

Just had to google 24 hour flu – I thought it was a myth. Same as the above comments – “dead” in bed yesterday, ready to run today. Total strange – curious how I got so weak, and with so high a fever – sweat, chills, tired enough to stay in bed day and overnight – and then GONE the next afternoon. Lucky me – ALOHA!

Wow – just wow…I, like the person above, have just suffered the wieirdest flu ever…alright one afternoon. At tea time suddenly I couldn’t face food. Started shivering – put on a jacket (family thinking I was strange as they were warm). Within 15 minutes I was in bed shivering and sweating at the same time. Stayed in bed apart until around 8 pm the next day – now, apart from a few being in bed too long aches, I’m fine. went through all the flu symptoms – soreness, blocked nose, sort throat, earache etc etc in short doses then GONE!!! My employers are just so NOT going to believe me….
