Flu Symptoms 2012

By January 3, 2012

Follow me on:

Looking for information about the 2012 - 2013 flu season? Try this and share your experience: Flu Symptoms 2013

A new year is upon us again and with it comes another flu season. Typical flu seasons peak sometime in February or March and it appears this year will be no exception. It is the first week of January and we are still seeing only sporadic flu activity around most of the country but it will most likely start to increase in the next few weeks. Do you have 2012 flu symptoms?

For those who have already come down with the flu, symptoms in 2012 are much like those of past flu season. Flu Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Exhaustion/Fatigue
  • Body Aches
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Congestion

Symptoms typically hang on for about a week, but can last longer. Read more: How Long Does the Flu Last?

Although it may seem like every illness you get this winter is the flu, that really isn't the case. There are many other viruses and germs out there that can and do make us sick, especially during cold and flu season. If your symptoms are very different from those listed above, you probably don't have influenza ("the flu").

You can also read about how the flu has affected real people this flu season and last over at Flu Symptoms 2011.

Think you have the flu? Share your symptoms and experiences.

The flu is a serious illness and not something you should blow off as just a bad cold. Even though we are closing in on peak flu season, it's not too late to get the vaccine if you haven't already. It takes about two weeks to be effective, but will be worth the time if it helps keep you healthy this year.

31 yr old male, NJ picked it from a colleague. Started off with mild sore throat, mild dry cough with a lot of desire to cough (no stuffy nose, no congestion or any cold). Took nyquil for two nights to relieve body aches and mild fever at night, and then went to doctor. Due to important work constraints, could not ideally stop working and just get rest and follow few home remedies for these probably viral infections to go away on their own until the fourth day. Doctor recommended zythromycin antibiotics after trying Delsym for a day for the cough without a lot of mucus. Delsym caused me watery diarrhea (probably due to over load on my liver due to nyquil and lot of beans – proteins?) and cough changed to productive yellow mucus after taking Delsym. Stopped Delsym on fifth day and although hate to take antibiotics as they are not supposed to be taken for cold, cough, flue but took them anyways. Phelgm turned slightly red indicating blood and cough remains? My mystery remains, planning to try some popular online home remedies for cough on weekend. Conclusion: take flu shots if you are not active, do not eat heatlhy, and do not have strong body, immune system otherwise typically flu, cold are body’s natural way of getting rid of old cells and should go away with rest.

Went to bed Sun night feeling fine, awakened 4am by monster headache. Within few hours also had body aches, chills, dizziness and some nausea. Worked AM, slept/rested rest of day. Lots of Tylenol and fluids. Awakened @ 3am today by monster headache, but dizziness is gone. Able to work a 1/2 day, but symptoms worse (thankfully dizziness hasn’t returned). Hoping tomorrow will be better. As much rest, Tylenol and fluids as possible until recovered!

PS I did get a flu shot and do so every year. My husband’s a day behind me symptom-wise, and he also gets flu shots. Hopefully, our symptoms will be milder and shorter in duration

(6) Madisyn says:

Mine started on Monday with a sore throat and body aches. I went to school, figuring it was just my allergies and that it would go away. But right when I got home, I started to feel worse. By then, I had a headache with the body aches and the sore throat. But no temperature until about 9 that night. It was only around 101. I stayed home from school Tuesday, feeling a little bit better. I had no temperature. That morning, the headache wasn’t as bad, and the body aches were gone. My sore throat still stayed. And also, nasal congestion began. Now it is Wednesday, and I’m once again staying home from school. My sore throat is STILL here, along with the congestion. I can feel mucus in my throat and it is difficult to talk or swallow. I checked my tonsils and the back of my throat for white spots, checking for Strep, but I don’t. So now, I’m wondering if it is still the influenza or if I do have Strep or laryngitis. ): Ugh…

42 y/o female. My 14 yr old daughter had symptoms on Sunday. Mine began 24hrs later, basically the same. Rapid onset, fever 102-103. Chills. Sudden constant clear sinus drainage/drip. Frequent mostly non productive cough. Occasional thick yellow/whitish mucous expectorated. She’s going on day 5, i’m going on day 4, into the flu. We both continue to have intermittent fever. We both have really poor appetite. Everything tastes bad, including warm teas, with honey and lemon. Neither of us have eaten really. Extreme fatigue, activity intolerance. Nausea. I’m almost 3 times her age. I have pain in my chest and abdomen, mostly when i cough. She said she does not, with her cough. I have no idea how long this is going to last, like i said, we’re on day 4 and 5. :(

I’m 29 and this is day 3 and all I’ve had is lack of appetite and dirreah. My son however is 4 and a half and he’s on day 15 of having flu symptoms. He’s had a very tough time, however when I took him to the emergency room they didn’t think he had the flu because he was so alert. He barely eats and gets sick at pretty much anything so don’t force him to eat and the doctor gave us medicine that obvious tastes gross and makes my son get sick. I’m at a loss, I have not idea what else I can do for my son. :(

Started with a sore throat and fatigue. Next day was more fatigue with frequent bowel movements and headache. Then the sneezing and watery eyes with congestion. Cough was mild and infrequent. Two more days of major congestion. Thought I was almost feeling better but major headache and fatigue all day today! When will this go away!

(10) Brandi says:

Flu started 5 days ago. Started just before I wanted to go to sleep, a really high fever and chills began following with body aches, couldn’t sleep and started taking extra strength tylenol. Felt just terrible for the next 3 days with my head feeling like a bowling ball, fever and chills, body aches and nausea. Couldn’t eat much, just drink water and had popsicles. Not to mention I’m 7 weeks pregnant and having a fever that went over 100 :( ! The 3rd day chest congestion sets in and a persistent dry couch that burns my chest and throat when I cough, I went to the doctors, he said there’s nothing he could perscribe me and that its the flu and it can go for 2 weeks. On the fourth day fever starts to break and chest congestion becomes more painful and dry cough continues. 5th day still coughing really hard and my chest is feeling really painful. I’ve been up coughing almost all night. Might go and get a second opinion as chest pain feels as bad as bronchitis even though the doctor said its the flu..?

(11) Marjorie says:

UGH flu!!!! last week I went to Florida for a business trip (left on Wednesday) and within a couple of hours of getting off the plane I had an intense headache… I ignored it… then came the dizziness and nausea about three days later (Saturday)… It was a short trip so I was home by then thus it seems that it took about 3 days to really hook me. Dizziness and nausea took over Saturday, I felt feverish and had some chills and then the body aches and exhaustion started with the addition of a cough and wicked sore throat (Sunday/Monday). I have little desire to get out of bed, I feel so crapy I just wanna cry, and at this point, a week later on Wednesday, I feel like I have been hit by a bus so much so that my back teeth even hurt. I tend not to call the doctor but I did call this morning begging for relief. I have been taking advil and that has helped with the body pains, I am thinking about heading out for some tylenol inspired by those of you who are also suffering this this evil flu demon…

I hope you all feel better!

38 year old male from West New York, NJ.

I was perfectly fine for a ski trip to Plattekill, Ny on saturday, and for Church on Sunday. As a matter of fact went to bed at normal time (aka 1 am) feeling perfect. Then Monday I woke up to 16 missed calls(and 16 vm) 11 text messages, at around 3pm. I had slept thru my alarm and my phone blowing up.
I woke with a splitting head ache and no energey I just call my boss and curled up under the blanket for another 15 hrs. When I finaly came out of my “coma sleep” I had the dryiest mouth, when I went to get a drink I found I could not swallow! My tounge and throat where swollen and soar.. I could not sleep any more so I started checking all my vm and text. Now its Friday and after 5 days of chills, headaches, fever, soar thoat, loss of energey, and not wanting to eat(or better put not able to eat) I feel a bit better. Still hard to swollow dew to tounge but it is alot better than before…. AND as I type this I find out everyone at my office have this flu… ahhh go away for good!

You think that’s bad! (ha,Ha) Started with a wicked sore throat . then severe chills, couldn’t get warm. No appetite, headache.. Then just in a fog with no energy, tried Mucinex, coughed until I was exhausted, and slept for a long time. Just got worse from there for a few days . took Coricidin HP syrup (has tylenol) and slept pretty well . Since then have been blowing my nose like crazy, coughing, still no appetite, , weak and really depressed. This is the 8th day and I am just starting to feel better.

(15) mmac says:

home remedies…
Garlic. Garlic. Garlic. you can buy it in pill form or eat the real thing. take four pills the minute you feel the symptoms coming on. then take 2 more every 4-6 hours.
onions work too. but it is harder to eat onions and stinkier. the pill form of garlics doesn’t smell or make you smell. it also keeps mosquitoes by the way.
also try zinc and vit. c. WITH Garlic!

these things will NOT cure it. but it can shorten the length and lessen the symptoms of the flu and colds.

(16) Trish says:

Same here. Started out of nowhere last Saturday (2/4) with a sore throat. About 30 minutes later I notice my teeth were hurting. Soon after that a massive headache begam. Sunday more of the same, and by Monday morning I had terrible stomach issues and couldn’t go to work. At this point add in sinus pressure & congestion, coughing, and runny nose (clear), then eye and throat itchiness. Sore every a.m. and comes and goes throughout the day, and usually the same with the headaches as well. Felt worse by Friday (2/10), and finally to the doctor that day. He said it was a bad case of the flu. Slept through most of this past weekend. Now it’s Tuesday and it took hours to get out of bed this morning. The runny nose/itchy eyes/cough/sneezing/stuffiness are mostly gone, but the sore throat and feeling of needing more rest is strong as well as the pressure in the back of my sinues. And this is day 11 for me.

Last night ( Tuesday ) I had gone out with my wife for valentines dinner. I was feeling good all day n even thru dinner. However, shortly after getting back home I felt like i had ran thru a meat grinder! My whole body hurt and had really bad chills followed by mild dizziness n headache. I took my temp and was 100.1. I took nyquil, ibuprofen and went to bed. I awoke around 830 am some dizziness but no fever n some soreness still. Is this the beginning of my flu adventure?

Its been 5 days and my chest feels like someone is sitting on it..im running into things because im off balaned..head and body aches…fever and iritability and did i mention my stomach!?
the weird thing is i haven’t coughed or had a runny nose at all? Maybe for the first few days my nose felt stuffed tho….

However …when i stand up and walk around all the colour rushes from my face and i feel like im going to fall down!? What a doosie!
Does anyone else feel like this…oh and note to all do not be as in denial about being sick as me; i painted my bathroom because i didnt want to feel lazy…an hour after i finished i was laying down for almost 24 hrs because i had over exherted myself… i hope this is the flu and not something worse!!!

(20) Maria says:

I am 38. Three days ago, I woke up with a minor sore throat and chest congestion. I ignored these symptoms and two days ago I volunteered in my daughter’s kindergarten class. That usually wipes me out anyway, but this knocked me out! The next day, yesterday, I called in sick to work. I was achy, had chest pain from congestion, and headache, but not from sinus pressure. I had zero energy and slept the whole day. Oddly, I had no fever. Tylenol did not help, but my dad’s old fake fever trick (hot water bottle on chest/throat and lower back) seemed to help. Strangely, I could feel the virus moving down my body from chest to my gastrointestines where it is today. Very uncomfortable and, well, my family is feeling it, or should I say smelling it?! I hope its out of my feet tomorrow!

Anyway, this is the second time I’ve had these kinds of symptoms (no energy, achy, chest congestion, intestinal discomfort, but no fever) that didn’t seem to be the ususal flu symptoms.

(21) nurse says:

Hmmm…had flu jab, a requirement for my role as district nurse. On annual leave…two days in felt back ache, headache with eye ache. Dry cough…hacking with phlegm seeming stuck mid chest….ow it hurts to cough…increased breaths…cough…blood due to continous coughing…high temp…no appetite…. Annual leave over in two days…..should be right as rain then….typical. My advice to you all….rest….fluids….paracetamol….if you feel you need to see a dr phone first…ask to have a telephone consultation….your dr will ask you relevant questions and see you if you need help….otherwise stay in if you can. This flu feels like death to me….but may mean death to others…those with low immune systems…pregnant women..the elderly…the young…those who are vulnerable. If you do go outside please bear these people in mind. X :-D It’s a serious illness :’(

(22) Lianne says:

The flu came on suddenly around Wednesday. I was exhausted after work (came home at 4:30) and slept the rest of the evening… Wasn’t sure why I felt so bad. Woke up at around 2am with a horrible sore throat and didn’t sleep well the rest of the night. I toughed work out the next day on Thursday but everything went down-hill from there. The throat got even worse and my temperature got up to 102 degrees in the evening. No appetite, severe body aches and shivering chills and I slept from 4:30 again all the way until morning (with the help of medicine). With still a bad throat and dizziness, my fever went away to around 98 and I went back to work the next day. It returned to around 99.5 and I felt horrible because every time I bent down/ sat up my head would pound in pain and I’d get a dizzy spell. Maybe because my ears were all plugged up and painful too. I went home early around 2 and slept until 7ish. Lots of liquids and light food, and only laying around, really… Exhaustion, dizziness, headache, sore throat, fever, loss of appetite is really getting to me. I’ve tried tea and airborne and pain medication. Thank goodness it’s Friday!!!

(23) LadyQ says:

I am pretty sure I have the flu. 33 and in good health. Eat right, exercise. But I still get the flu. Mine started with a headache and body aches…and just not feeling right. But last night I knew I had the flu when at 8 pm I didn’t want to eat supper (and hadn’t eaten since 1 pm). I usually keep a good appetite, so THIS was very unusual for me. I listened to my body. I took a long hot bath after taking some Ibuprofen and Benadryl. Went to bed by 9 pm. Woke up every 4 hours as the Benadryl wore off. Would take Tylenol or Ibuprofen with the Benadryl every 4 hours so I could sleep through the body aches, headache and chills. When I did sleep I slept HARD because of the Benadryl ( I take 3 tsp of Children’s liquid becuase it seems to work faster/better for me) So I think the hard sleep really gave my body the rest it needs. I woke up this morning still feeling a little achey and tired. I have a little nasal congestion but no coughing. A mild headache. Seems like the Benadryl is also helping with the nasal stuff. Going to rest the next few days and not overexert myself. Drink lots of fluids and eat light. I still have enough energy to do laundry and take care of the kids. Maybe this will be short lived for me! Hope you all bounce back quickly!

(24) Lynn says:

My 14 year old son started with aches and fatigue last Sunday (2/12). Monday am he woke with a low grade temp 100.2 a bad sore throat and the sniffles, so I kept him home from school. All day Monday and Tuesday he continued to complain of a sore throat, aches, and had either normal temp or low grade temp. I went ahead and took him to the doctor, just to make sure it wasn’t strep and to get a doctor’s excuse expecting him to go back to school on Wednesday. No swabs, just exam…it is a virus. We go home. Wednesday morning he awoke very disoriented and confused, rambling about being accused of something by people who weren’t even there…yes, very bazarre and scarey. I immediately checked his temp and it was 104! I gave him 2 ibuprophen and got him in a tepid bath, then call the doctor. The nurse got me an appointment and we were back at the doctor’s office. This time he was swabbed for the flu, strep and they did blood work (CBC, Mono test and Blood chem). The quick tests were negative for flu and strep. The quick test for mono was also negative. The good news was that his WBC count was normal and his blood chemistry came back perfect! The Flu swab and the blood were sent off for full testing and we were sent home again being told it was a virus, etc. Since Wednesday he has had peaks and valleys every day…some times he looks and even feels better. Other times he is running a high temp and looks like death. He still has a sore throat and now has a very nagging cough. This is the 7th day…and we see no end in sight! Is this another flu strain that the test didn’t pick up? Am I missing something? No one else in the family is sick…I hope it stays that way and I’m ready for my man to be back to normal.

Started about a week ago-first night fever/achy/chills with a slight cough, next day seemed ok just a little fatigued but able to work, that night hit hard again with same symptoms, cough worse- lungs would fill up every time I tried to lay down-almost no sleep that night-insane coughing-called in sick to work next day-next day better during day-then cough starts up again at night-still having hard time lying down—off next 2 days hope to get some rest and kick it for good. Get well to all

(26) JAN says:

Had the flu shot back in the fall. No health concerns until last week. Started sneezing a lot and took it for spring allergies starting early (certain trees are flowering around here in Atlanta already). After about a week of just sneezing it has turned into a strange mix of nose drainage (excessive but clear like a sinus infection or allergies), extreme dizziness, temperature going up and then going down, constantly (today ranged from 95 to 98.2 and I am hypothyroid and always have been normal around 97.2 or so), feeling hot and freezing cold alternatively, and stomach upset and not being very hungry. Not being one for OTC remedies, I am just hoping it all goes away ASAP. Luckily no sore throat (always the worst part of viruses in my opinion) so far, knock on wood.

I have every symptom but I got mine after being sick with something else. I took NyQuil and that gave me the sore throat. I started with just a bad cough and runny nose, then came a fever of 101.8, really bad chills, and just couldn’t get comfortable. This morning the sore throat came into play.

43 year-old healthy female…5 days ago sudden onset of fatigue, a mild fever (99.9), chills, and just all around feeling of blah. Next morning, went ahead and went to work….just felt weak & had chills here and there, so I moved a little slower than usual. I went to my son’s baseball practice after work and was standing against the wall watching him. A MAJOR dizziness spell~ thank goodness I was leaning against a wall…I slid down the wall and sat my butt down. I went ahead and went to work the next day…knowing I probably shouldn’t…felt a little weak and “out of it”…just moved slower than usual. Hour by hour I started to feel much worse to where I couldn’t even lift my arms…major fatigue, nausea, shoulder and arms were just BURNING with pain. I went home sick (Thursday). Thursday night, probably the worse…ENTIRE BODY ACHED…felt like I was 2,000 years old. Didn’t go to work Friday…Saturday, no energy, in bed most of the day. Sunday (Feb 26), felt better…caught up on cleaning!! (Shouldn’t have).. Sunday night…omgosh, the dizziness returned and I couldn’t sleep…was beginning to wonder if I have something else…! I never call out of work, but I did again today, (Monday, Feb 27)….light headed/dizziness and a feeling that I better go lay down!

50 year old female with asthma. At 4:30 p.m. on Saturday I noticed that all my muscles ached and I was so tired. It hit me really fast. Went to lie on the couch and my teeth were chattering for 15 minutes. My son covered me with 6 blankets, I could not get warm. Temp was 102.4, little appetite. Was on couch all day Sunday coughing up mucus from my lungs, once there was even blood tinged mucus, bad headache, muscle aches, nasal congestion, got the chills again and temp shot up to 102, no appetite, jaw muscles hurt anyway. Today, Monday, feeling a bit better. This is my first sick day from work in about 15 years. Nasal congestion again and coughing up stuff from lungs, no energy, diarrhea, temp is normal. I’d rather be busting my behind at work than to be home with this flu!

49 y/o male. Had the flu shot in the fall. I never get sick!
This came on suddenly this past saturday night. Fever up to 102,pain in the chest, dizziness, slight cough, mild sore throat, muscle pain but an overall feeling of extreme tiredness and achiness.
Lots of tylenol brings fever down but once it wears off the fever is right back up to the 101 range.
Approaching day 5!

33 y/o female: Damn! on day 5 of this flu from hell..literally it’s gotta be from hell. It started friday with a dry, mild cough, woke up on saturday with a mild sore throat, by 10 PM that night i had a high fever, chest congestion, but no head congestion and it felt like my sinsues and throat were on fire! i’m talking like i just ate a ghost pepper sorta fire. got the body aches sunday, monday and tues…today the only aches i have is soreness of my gums, teeth, head and sinuses. I suggest using an ice pack it really helps. Last night i literally slept with on on my pillow under my head..it helps with the swelling. My head still feels like it’s going to explode everytime i cough…i now have head congestion but mainly at night. still run a low temp only at night though. the symptoms seem to get worse at night, even though i am propped up on pillows so im not laying flat..the fever seems to come on when the sun goes down.

this is srsly the worse sickness i have had in a long time. It’s the burning of the sinuses that is really getting to me. the only thing i’ve found to help that is an ice pack.

I’m on day 4 of my symptoms. Started Monday morning with a sore throat, urge to clear my throat constantly, sinus pressure and headache and THICK post nasal drip, I thought it was all allergies because the pollen counts are so high here in St. Louis due to the mild winter, or I thought I had a mild laryngitis. Went to work and the sore throat just got worse. Went home that night and collapsed on the couch, I felt like I got hit by a bus. Tuesday was about the same but then I started to develop some shortness of breath if I walked too fast or went up just one flight of stairs. My voice started getting hoarse and started to get a really deep non-productive cough, still went to work and I could feel the symptoms getting worse as the day went on. For the past two days I have been sitting at my desk in front of a space heater because I cannot seem to stay warm (mind you the past two days here have been 65+). Today is Thurday, my chest hurts and now I can feel the mucus rattling in my chest and I can’t seem to cough it up, it feels like it gets stuck, still short of breath (now with just talking) and my voice is nonexistent. The fatigue is getting a little better, but I have not eaten a good meal since Sunday and have lost about 5 lbs. I have NO appetite. Not sure if I have a fever (my 4 mo old puppy ate my thermometer) but the chills when it’s so warm makes me wonder. I am 28 and have NEVER had the flu ever in my life. I just want it to go away!!!

46 yr old female in Toronto Canada. Out doing errands all yesterday (3/3)) until arriving home around 3.30 feeling achy and nauseous. Went to bed and didn’t get up. Achy muscles, headache, stomachs pain, waves of nauseous, fever 101. No appetite – very unusual for me. Finally caved on meds around 11pm. Hard to distinguish some pain symptoms as still in postMVA mode, just 6 wks. Slept ok till around 4.30. Aches creeping back. And then the diarrhea started. No sore throat or coughing. Fingers crossed that stuff stopped at the border! Kids have been fighting something too, but only symptoms have been occasional stomach aches and loose BMs. Now hubby has sore throat and general feeling of crappiness. None of us took flu shots. Good thing brought the computer home. Don’t want to contribute to the office-mates getting sick. But praying it is a quick pass.

Mine started with a monster headache…same for my husband also. I felt extremely tired the first time, then had chills which turned to fever for about 4 days. My husband’s chills/fever lasted for a week. Once my chills subsided, I started getting back pain and a stiff neck. It’s been 6 days now and I still have a stiff neck and my lower back really hurts. I’ve got an enlarged lymph node on my neck, still very tired, and pain in my joints on my left side (ankle, knee, and thumb). I also got a burning sensation in the skin all over my back for about 2 days. My husband’s arms and legs are starting to itch/burn. It is Sunday now and I am going to go to the doctor tomorrow. My husband is going back as well. Not really sure if this is the flu, but has been downright awful. I hate being tired all the time and my husband has missed a lot of work. We are in Indiana.

I started on a Friday morning having an itchy nose all day took some benadryl thinking it was only allergies and then started at the same time with that itchy feeling on the inside of the mouth so I kind of knew I was gonna get sick since I have low immune system. When night time came I started to sneeze continuously until I went to bed my nose started to run like an open faucet. I had the chills, I was very cold, my body ached so much, I couldn’t hear and I felt like I couldn’t breathe and on top of that I’m asthmatic. All through the night I couldn’t sleep, I had a high fever barely made it out of bed to the bathroom and started vomiting so my husband took me to the ER and then I stood there until Sunday cuz I really didn’t want to stay there again for another 2 weeks since I’ve been through this before. So I had the H1N1 and I came home without my release and started taking my fluids again until I got better. Not 100% but better than the other days. And now I’m returning back to work tomorrow Tuesday.

Washington State, day 10 of illness. Started late on a Saturday night with heavy chest pain and urge to cough deep. Next day fever, chills, fatigue, more coughing. By Tuesday went to the doc to get lungs checked, feeling half dead! He did blood tests and x-rays and decided to treat me for viral pneumonia (though he was wrong about x-ray) with azith and an expectorant. No appetite, abx made me sick too. Still no energy or appetite by day 8 but went back to work day nine, still experiencing some chills, fatigue and low appetite though cough is finally looser and less painful. Also used loratadine throughout to try to stay less mucousy. Best of luck!!

Started last Saturday, this is Tuesday. I was feeling exhausted, went to bed at 7:00 pm but body aches were so bad I didn’t sleep more than thirty minutes at a time. The next day I had little appetite. Continuing bad headaches and body aches, exhaustion. Woke up Monday determined to go to work. I had a slight sore throat. By the time I got to work the cough and congestion had started. I made a doctor’s appointment. I had a low grade fever. Got something for the cough to help me sleep. By the time I got home my head and nose were so congested I couldn’t breath through my nose; I was miserable. Thank God I remembered my Netti pot. I used it and it cleared my nose up enough so that I could breathe through my nose somewhat.

Stayed home from work today and I am still feeling lousy. Low appetite, congested, cough and sore throat. I hate to take another day off work. I’m not sure what I will do. This is horrible.

Wen’t to Vegas last weekend and returned Home with the Flu….
It started with a bad headache and feeling tired, i thought it was from the trip but later that night the body aches came on very strong, had to lay with a heating pad, then the coughing and tightness in my chest started in…
I was so sleepy but I tossed and turn with pain running through my legs and arms. i was running a very high fever for about 3 hours, I kept taking a cool rag over my arms and face and started drinking ice cold gatorade took some tylenol and finally broke the fever. then i slept all day, woke up and vomited then, fell back to sleep for another 4 hours, all in all i slept for two days straight, by the 3rd day body aches let up, but headache, cough, and fatigue, still hanging on. Starting to cough up alot of yellow stuff.

I hope these posters are getting their stuff check by a Dr. and not just self diagnosing. I have potential sinus infections, possible pneumonia, and other issues. Stick to the symptoms that are flue related. If you sinus and teeth hurt, or your ears are contested see a Dr. and make sure it’s not an infection. If your doc says you have pneumonia, you probably do. Pneumonia can come from a bacterial or viral infection and doesn’t have to come from influenza. Part of flu season is hysteria and miss information, check your facts and see your Dr. =)

Now how did I find this page … I’m checking my facts, symptoms are classic influenza – Fever, Exhaustion/Fatigue, Body Aches, Headache, Cough, Congestion, Up and down fever started at 103 down to normal and then back up (which is not necessarily influenza but started to make me wonder) whole family has it now. Going to get tested Monday if it’s not cleared up, by then we’ll be 3 to 7 days into it depending on the person. Returning fever and symptoms on the first person infected makes me wonder if it’s the flu … I guess we’ll see. Mind you duration posted by the CDC is like 2 days to 2 weeks.

Started having minor sore throat a week ago Sunday. Had aches, mostly back and head tingled and hurt. No other symptoms other than lack of appetite. Stayed in bed all day Monday. Gradually started to gain back energy through rest of week, Friday felt back to 100%. Then bam! Sat got it all back again. aches, sli headache, no appetite, maybe slight fever.Sunday, trying to decide if I feel like getting out of bed. Got flu shot – maybe that’s why symptoms aren’t so bad. How long will thisi last?

(55 w/ Rheumatoid Arthritis on immune suppressives) Two or three weeks ago I had a dry cough like crazy. I never get respiratory illnesses. I figured it was allergies when my nose started to drip. Just irritating. Last Monday I started feeling icky. Very generalized fatigue, headache, imbalance issues. Thursday at work, the headache got much worse, neck ache like crazy and mild nausea. Stopped twice on my way home to upchuck. Since then I’ve had nonstop body aches, headache, neck ache, nausea and FATIGUE. Any effort causes me to be very dizzy and out of breath. My bp has been running high for me and my pulse around 100 at rest. I’ve been trying to drink and eat soups. The profuse perspiration and dizziness are the worst aspects, not that the vomiting and diarrhea are any fun. I can’t wait for this to be over. I’ve been taking Tylenol for the aches but nothing else.

Flu shots don’t work! Keep your immune system healthy and your body will battle what nature throws at it and then you will create your own immunities to things. Too many shots and too many antibiotics is why so many people are not healthy and catch everything.

These last 3 months have had to be the worst in my life! I originally started having problems with allergies in January which then turned into bronchitis but early February. As I was getting over it, my son came home from daycare with a bug and I immediately got sick again. By mid February, bronchitis had then turned to walking pneumonia. Again, I had finally started to get over that when my son came home Friday and appeared fine. By Saturday morning, he had a temp of 105.1. By Saturday afternoon my husband started complaining of a sore throat, dry cough and chills. My son also had a sore throat and his eyes were hurting. So I took care of them but by Sunday morning my asthma started to really bother me. I couldn’t stop coughing and I had a fever of 101.7. Still thought it was only a food until my fever started to alternate with chills and my entire body began to ache. It is now Monday and I’m exhausted, easily winded and I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus. Now my stomach has started to gloat and I have a ton of gas and feel queasy. I have an appointment with the doc tomorrow

This has got to be the WORST flu I’ve had in over four years! I get a flu shot every year because I work in a hospital, so I rarely catch it. But not this year… Woke up feeling like I was getting a cold, and then spiked a fever within about four hours. High fever lasted two days despite taking acetominophen, along with all the other wonderful symptoms – chills, night sweats, extreme body ache, pounding headache, raw throat, sinus congestion, ear ache, no voice… I stayed home from work for an entire week, something I’ve NEVER done! All I wanted to do was lay around and do nothing. The exhaustion was and still is horrible. Seven days later, I still have no voice, a raw throat, sinus congestion and I’m extremely tired.
The flu this year has been horrible and seeminly extremely contageous! Half my office was out sick in one week.

I’m dizzy, I have a fever but low grade, splitting headache, extreme fatigue….it’s hard to get up and walk to the kitchen. I have had loose stools a few times, a horrible taste in my mouth, and no appetite and nausea. I think I may have the flu but don’t know anyone that has had it. This is horrible, I hope I’m not gonna feel this achy for much longer. I’m so out of it I can carry a conversation on with anyone. UGH!!!!

Really strong bronchitis. Went back to the Doc because I have history of pneumonia and pleurisy. He said my lungs were clear and gave me a stronger expectorant. Two days later, mucous turned green. Went back to the Doc and he gave me antibiotics. Took first one today. It has been 12 days since the first symptoms. The fever and chills and fatigue thing seems to come in waves.

Male 50 years old. I was at work (3rd shift) and walked outside to get some fresh air and it hit me like all natural disasters combined. I was shaking so bad I had to leave work. I felt tremendous after waking from my coma like sleep. I felt a little weak in the second 24 hours, and am feeling almost back to normal in the 3rd day.

I sanitized my house (trying to protect my family) from top to bottom and opened all windows airing everything out. Washed all linens twice.

I would not wish this on my worst enemy. I am glad to see it gone. Quick, furious and not FUN.

But add the congestion, started coughing up the yucky stuff. So I’m on day 3 woke up weak! I just knew I’d be at least 80% so here I lay in bed googling another symptom, y does my body hurt. Saturday of last weekend I went to the ER and was given antibiotics for a UTI. The next day(Sunday) I started to have an itchy nose and throat and sneezing. I figured that it was just allergies so I took an antihistamine. Then my nose started to alternate between runny and stuffy and I had the nasty post-nasal drip constantly draining, a scratchy feeling in my throat, and muscle weakness. I was also running a fever. On Thursday morning the alternating runny and stuffy nose were still there along with post-nasal drip and scratchy feeling in my throat. I woke up with a sour feeling stomach, nausea, and immediately began vomiting. I figured that was due to the post-nasal drip that seemed to be never ending, lots of clear boogers when I blow my nose. Sinus pain too. I have no appetite. I have only slept 5 hours in the past 2 days. It is now Friday morning and I still have stuffy/runny nose, post-nasal drip, scratchy feeling in my throat, muscle weakness, no appetite, and it feels like I have a lot of mucus in my chest but I don’t have a cough. I have a huge exam today worth 40% of my grade and I feel absolutely horrible and do not want to go to school but our teacher does not allow makeups. I told my teacher that I was sick. She said unless I am hospitalized or need emergency surgery I will NOT be allowed to make up the test. So, basically I’m going to possibly be infecting 45+ other people with the flu today. I really rather stay home but I don’t want to fail. This sucks.

Stupid move. $1000.00 later to be diagnosed with flu! Al the same symptoms as above. Today is Saturday. Started taking Dayquil and Nyquil once the ER found no pneumonia — I’ve heard they can complicate it. I’m feeling better, not so much feeling like I’m made of glass anymore, yet, still kinda out of it, like I’m dreaming or something. I have to get back to teaching my kids this week! Monday night went to bed with a strange feeling, woke up tues with a dry ongoing  cough and body aches with tempature sensitivity, coughed all day and by night knew it was something serious, not allergies. wednesday morning awoke multiple times in sweats and fever and with chills. Very strong. By morning I was exhausted. Went to work at 9  and was sent home by 1030.
Never been so sick that I would seem to loss conscienceless as I slept. All afternoon cried from the aches and sweats. I could not stand up, ( ive never not been able to stand up!!!) My upper back was in a very tight squeeze and sore. Horrible headache.  Coughing finally became productive and nose began to run and sneeze.
Thursday. Awoke feeling a bit better, until I tried to go to the bathroom. I was just as sick, had not eaten a single thing since two days ago and food sill was not an appetizing idea. I drank soy milk and crashed back down hoping to feel better. But even after that nap, and getting two hours of reprive from symptoms. After I ate soup, the symptoms came back, unable to get warm and chills with heat waves.
I really hope tomorrow I feel better cough medicine does not work. My skin is standing on edge, super sensitive.  Ugh.

Body aches and headaches I attributed to the constant coughing. So tired and unable to sleep due to it.
Next day went to Dr as was short of breath with the least excertion.
It’s day 3 now and finally got some sleep as Anti-biotics have started to kick in. That and a lot of tylenol. I’m still coughing but it’s not as bad and my chest is starting to break up Yuk greenish mucous.

DAYS 1 THROUGH 4 I had a temp of 101°. Extremely bad sore throat (all the way down to my chest). Ears burn too. Could only stand up long enough to get something to drink. Clear, thick, abundant mucus from nose. Couldn’t cough up the mucus I felt in my vocal cords (no voice too). Chest hurting. Clothing felt like it was scraping my skin. Bones & makes hurt. Headache.
Day 5- coughed up brown-green chunk of mucus. Now I can talk. I sounds like a man when I do talk. More still in there, it is looser now. Throat still burns, ears too. No fever or aches. Mucus from nose a little more milky looking and thicker. No headache but, oh, the vertigo has got to go! Exhausted too.
I DID GET MY FLU SHOT, November 2011.
The last time I had the flu was in 1995.
It was much much worse that time. I was in the ER with an IV and 2 bags of fluids they pushed into me (103 temp).
I was also not able to move out of the bed for a solid week!

But I’m on the upswing from this flu…I can feel it! :)

(69) Mikey… I can identify with your pain in one of my legs (left) and my lower back as well. It didn’t start until I knew I was already ill. It’s not painful like you say, just dull and really annoying, almost like growing pains in a way.

Monday May 14th, I woke up for work like normal, but with a tickle in my throat. Thought nothing of it, as I can work through a cold, and since it was the first sign of anything, I took some preventative remedies like echinacea and the like, and set about my day. As it progressed, I felt the need to cough now and again, but it was a dry type, like trying to clear a hair from the back of my mouth. Other than that I felt fine. Tuesday was a different story. After working most of the day, I had begun to feel quite awful in general; fatigued, headache, stuffy nose, body ache… so I left an hour early and went home to rest. That’s when the real fun started. About 2 hours after climbing into bed to rest, I literally had to run for the bathroom. It was coming out both ends, thank goodness for having emptied the bathroom trash can earlier, It was being filled back up quickly! But all that seemed temporary, as it subsided and I felt a whole lot better afterwards. So I went to work the next day, still feeling ‘off’ but alright enough to work, or so I thought. By the time I arrived, I was as green as a lime and ended up falling backwards out of one of the prototype vehicles I’m in the middle of designing. Everyone said as much as told me to forget the project for now, go home. I managed to stay for a meeting regarding the project and then left, buying meds and a digital thermometer on the way home, only to find that I was already sporting a fever of 99.8F and climbing rapidly.

May 20, 2012 at 1:02 pm
(70) Scott says:

After 3 hours it was at 102.8F. I awoke in the middle of the night from weird dreams/nightmares – like a gas mask hanging from the ceiling watching me while my couch cushions erupted upwards and then froze in midair like time had suddenly stopped – and I was SOAKED in sweat and freezing. I took my temp again and it was now 104.3F. I changed sheets and dried off, but could only sleep in 15 min. increments for the same reasons. Since then I have not slept more than 1/2 hour max at a time, and water is the only thing I’ve been able to hold down. I haven’t been back to work since. My mother is a top level RN, and gave me gravol for day time nausea, Maxeran for night, and Temazepam for sleep aid. Last night was the first time in 4 days that I’ve slept for hours at a time. After several days at high fever, I was relieved to see that it may have finally broken as this morning it read 99.8F. I am still really not well however, quite weak, have the odd bout of nausea and still have a nasty headache. My abdomen has since become quite painful though, mainly when I cough or move suddenly. There is also the lethargy and lack of appetite to contend with as well.

To anyone suffering this influenza, I feel for you. I am naturally a very healthy and active person, with a great immune response and I even heal from physical wounds with a speed many compare to ‘Superman’. This bug devastated me, and the only thing I can compare it to was when I had Mononucleosis as a child. No other flu or bug has ever been this awful on me. Get lots of rest, drink LOTS of water and I hope it spares you the horrors I’ve been through. Longest week of my life since Mono (3 month on that one, it was mild but it’s also much more serious than a flu).

It’s May in London……but it is like winter coats hats heating on endless rain and grey skies….I have had this absolutely awful flu/virus, dizzy, hot and cold feeling just really weird and this unbelievable sleepiness, where l literally can’t stay awake l have had it for over 10 days, sometimes when l am at home l think it has gone and then after an hour if l do something it comes back in waves of this weird dizzy spacial thing and then aches and pain, slight nausea, last week l had a headache for 5 days that moved from one side of my head to another, the weakness and general malaise is truly awful because you don’t know when it will end, my Dr. told me to rest for another week, and not to expect to feel better until at least friday………that will make it over 2 weeks!!What can l do to get rid of this thing it is depressing and you just can’t do anything and kind of embarrassing as people say are you still not better……..!!I am wondering if l should go into hosptial so l can rest without doing things around my home……I am at my wit’s end……any advice??Does anyone else has this?

(73) Tara says:

I guess my symptoms are more like Gail Berrys: I started out with intestinal upset last week, but didn’t think too much of it…..that was for 2 days……next day I awoke with the room spinning, so I got up (that usually helps as occassionally this happens to me and a lot of times it’s just sinuses that I can get rid of pretty easily)…………went about another day…..the next morning I awoke wondering which Mac Truck hit me? Even my skin hurt. Ached all over, sore throat, cough that I thought would take my head off, and I knew I had a temp…..too sick to take it. When my stomach could tolerate, I took Ibuprophen just to be able to move. After about the 3rd day, I took my temp……with ibuprophen it was 100. Absolutely NO APPETITE….kind of queesy off and on. Drank tea, water, and 7 up (that unbelievably upset my stomach) Cough is bad, but not constant…..I can feel and sometimes hear the fluid rolling around in there and sometimes productive, sometimes not.

This is day number 5. I can say that I feel SOMEWHAT better than the first few days, but not a lot. At least I’m up and about……eyes still burning and this morning I still have a temp of 99 but that’s without any ibuprophen or aspirin, so hey, maybe I will live. I guess my question is like everyone else’s …….when will this thing decide to vamoos.

Finally on the upswing from my bout with it. Started beginning of May. I was really tired and achy for about 2 weeks. Chalked it up to just working a lot (2 jobs nonstop) and being run down. Then I started to get night sweats and fever/chills. I’m normally about 97degrees. My fever reached a high of about 102. Spent all of last weekend in bed, sleeping and drinking lots of fluids. Really felt weak and dehydrated.

I would not wish this flu strain on my worst enemy. It lasted close to 4 weeks.

(76) Meg says:

I’m not sure if I have flu, but most of my symptoms are the same as the most common ones people are mentioning. I didn’t get the flu vaccine as I am normally a very healthy person, and only get mild colds every winter. I went to school on Tuesday, and everything was fine, but during the day my chest got really tight. I’m not asthmatic, but my dad is so I used an inhaler to try and stop it, but the tightness didn’t go away. It felt like someone was sitting on my chest. The next day the chest thing was gone, but I had a really sore throat. I went to school again because it was a half day, but in the evening I really crashed. Today I have the painful chest, stuffy nose and sinuses, sore throat, muscle aches and I’m sleeping a lot more than I normally would. This sound like the flu to you?

One week ago I was in an office for several hours and got a really bad chill. The bone heads must have had the air at 60. The next day I felt terrible, ached all over and the following day had a fever of 102 that lasted 3 days.
The worst part is that my head felt like it might it explode every time I move it or roll my eyes. Im still dealing with exploding head syndrome a week later and hear it might last another week! Yuck!

I had a flu shot in the fall of 2011. Last Saturday I got a stiff neck and pain in my shoulders. That was followed with a headache, fatigue, runny nose, sore throat and now a cough. A week later, I still have the stiff neck and pain in my shoulders, fatigue, runny nose and congestion in my chest. I thought this thing would be gone by now. I still feel lousy.

(81) Janie says:

I am 47/female & live in Washington State. My flu/cold started with a small soar throat on Tuesday night and progressively got worse into Wednesday. By Wednesday night the pressure in my head felt like my head was going to explode. There was no comfortable place to rest my head on the pillow. The pain also migrated into my hips and lower back making it even more difficult to try to get to sleep so as not to feel the pain. I could barely speak. I took Mucinex and Nyquil at night, but nothing seemed to work. Night sweats were horrible and had to change the sheets & night gown. No appetite, nausea, fatigue, head pressure, pain in low back/hips. It is now Saturday and am starting to get more energy, but very weak, and still no appetite. Steaming my face really helped with the head pressure. Hope I can get back to work by Tuesday. This flu is a BITCH.

This is day 5..I had to laugh at how many people said they felt like they were dying because thats exactly how I’ve been feeling. Haven’t been this sick in years! I’m a 54 yr old female and live a very active life. I just can’t do anything right now. Fever, body aches, sore throat and ears, lots of nausea. I’m an avid runner and only think of it as something I can’t wait to do again:) Not much appetite though I’m trying to get some sustenance. Last night the chills were so bad I couldn’t talk! 2 blankets and nothing could get me warm:( Really hope this goes away soon. Missing all the Memorial Day fun with days off from work…really stinks…Hope we all get better soon

I am 15 years old and I am a male. I woke up this morning and when I rolled over my chest hurt right around my heart I was really confused but I just went back to sleep and woke up at 3pm pain still there. So I went to get something to eat when I got downstairs it felt like something was moving across my chest?! I then was scared I still don’t know what is happening. So I made some breakfast and the pain moved again down my chest to my abdomen. I then searched Google and this web site came up so if any one can help me it would be greatly appreciated

(86) Cleo says:

It’s been helpful reading everyone else’s comments. I’m sure I have the flu too, first time in about 10 years. Mine started with a sore chest and very hoarse voice. (Sun) I thought it was due to being in a room full of cigarette smoke for quite awhile. The next night I woke up coughing, but other than that and the the other 2 symptoms I felt ok. Did the normal Memorial Day thing, and went to work Tuesday. I couldnt catch my breath and it was hard to talk. Got tingling in my hands and roof of the mouth when I talked very much. I got sent home from work- we have a strong policy of not coming to work sick so that you dont get everyone else sick too. By Tuesday afternoon I felt hit by the same bus everyone else here has been hit by. I couldnt get warm, throat hurt a little, but the body aches went into my toes and fingers. The coughing was terrible, lack of appetite, very sore throat, headache, wiped out, too ill to get into a car to go to a Dr. Today it’s Friday, I feel well enough to go to a Dr. I know there isnt anything he can do, other than help treat the symptoms, maybe I can get some cough medicine to help me get through the night without coughing up a lung. It’s late to get the flu, but still is as miserable as in the winter!

(87) April says:

I thought I was dying too! I told my husband that this cant be right, maybe its meningitis, etc. (I google too much) Started Thursday morning (woke with headache) by the afternoon had a 101.7 fever. Went to the walk in clinic and my temp had gone up to 103.8. Symptoms at the time were high fever, chills, sweats, headache, cough, sneezing, clear runny nose (like a leaky faucet) and the higher my fever got the more my lower back would ache. He swabbed me for flu and strep and both came back negetive. So what is this thing? I slept all day friday, alternating tylonol and motrin to keep the fever down. Saturday morning my fever had broke but my head is killing me and now I feel nauseous. I do not recall ever being this sick. My 2 daughters have strep right now so doc gave me a zpack just in case but it hasnt done much for me yet. Just praying that our 18month old son doesnt get any of this! As much as i would hate it, I would rather me have this thing for another month than for him to get it!

(88) Jazzie says:

My two friends at school were sick (i have most of my classes with them) they were away for a few days but when they came back to school they were still sick. my nephew who visited us on the weekend was also sick.

Started having flu symptoms on Saturday night. Such as runny/blocked nose, sneezing watery eyes so I took arius which is for hay fever but it said it cured symptoms for runny itchy nose, headache, sneezing and watery eyes.

We were playing jenga and I went to bed at 2 am. Woke up at 11 am and felt dizzy but thought it would go away. I also had a fever.

then we went to the shops I felt so dizzy
and tired we came back from the shops at 4pm and as soon as we were home I fell asleep.

My grandma woke me up at 6pm for dinner. But wasn’t that hungry I ate a bit and took Panamax. The fever kept going away and coming back.

Went to bed at 7pm but couldn’t sleep. I kept sleeping then waking up again. So it’s Monday morning and I’m not going to school.

(89) Britton says:

It all started after a day in my salt water pool in my back yard last Sunday. The same night I woke up occasionally with cold chills and sweat. I do recall just one cough and it was dry and nothing came out. Later on to day two the symptoms gotten worst. I started getting headaches everytime I moved my head left or right and along with my eyes. Also, at night, I’ve been getting cold chills a few minutes prior to bed. My apitite is normal, I’m not really exhausted, I don’t have any nausea or diahhrea, nor any chest pains and I am on my 5th day with this. My Doctor said it was a virus and that I should take Vitamins for Men (because I’m 19) and told me to drink lots of fluids. My fevers would vary from mornings being 101+ to afternoons being 97.8+ after taking heaps of Tylenol. I really hope this isn’t anything but the Flu… But I’ve never had the flu nor have I gotten any vaccine. It’s June 7th and I am worried since I thought flu season was over with.

42 yo Male. Started with sore throat Sunday 3rd. Immediately treated by gargling salt water. Additional symptoms appeared rapidly and with severity. Body was so revved up could literally not sleep that first night. Runny nose, sinuse congestion, sneezing, giving way to upper respiratory issues deep coughing minor yellow phlegm production. Sinuses still seem clogged although coughing is subsiding. Lungs still have that messed up congested feel like something is not quite right. My work colleague is beginning to feel better after 2 weeks. I have a long way to go if I match his experience.

(93) Kcita says:

I am on day 4. Tuesday. And I finally feel more energetic although I woke up with pounding Headache.
Started on Saturday, I thought I had an itchy sore throat in the morning, the minute I got home around 3 pm I felt so fatigued.
I laid in bed all day. I did the same For Sunday, Monday. I tried drinking sore throat coat tea as my glands felt as if someone had been joking me.
It mildly helped. However the sinus, congestion came on, I took Benadryl but all it did was help me get some sleep (which I’m sure my body needed) as many people have commented you really feel as if you can’t even get the sleep because of all the symptoms going on at once.
I am hoping today is the beginning of something better. I still have a sore throat and a little congestion but the fatigue and fever is gone. So is the nausea, what is that about? This was a hard illness. So much going on at once. I just hope my kids dont get it. However my daughter on Friday had a fever and tummy ache. She complained about nausea too.I have a feeling she was stronger and gave it to me. I wonder if this is possible that children might be able to fight it off sooner.

(96) Gerri says:

My six year old gave me this flu (?) that she caught from her five year old friend that was getting over it. My daughter has mild symptoms, but my symptoms are so severe, I can hardly stand it. I have had a pounding headache for 5 days and absolutely the worst earache (both ears) and sore throat that I have ever had in my almost 45 years on this earth. I am a single mom with no health insurance who cannot even afford to go to the clinic. I am taking cheap generic over the counter meds from Target and am biding my time until Monday when the Student Health Center opens at the college where I will have a night class. The urge to cough is so severe and the pain in my throat and ears is awful. Appetitle is decreased. Sinus mucus is clear and not as bad as other colds, but throat mucus is brownish colored, not too thick and hard to clear from my throat. Sometimes I cough so much I feel like I will throw up. It feels like I woke up from throat surgery and did not get to take my pain meds, it hurts so bad.

(106) Suzanne says:

Monday Morning woke up at 3am with a pounding worse headache of my life. Unable to sleep. Started vomiting violently about 6am. I thought my insides were going to come out but atleast it did lessen the headache a little. Vomiting lasted 24hrs. Headache now has lasted 3.5 days not sure how much more I can take. Clear sinus dranage like a faucet, cannot control it. Sinus/tooth pain like a sinus infection. taking motrin in the daytime and nyquil at night. The meds let me sleep pretty well but woke up at 3am last night nauseated. Just trying to decide if I should try to see the dr today before the weekend. Wasnt sure if this could be a flu this far into June. I am also diabetic and it has been very difficult to keep blood sugars normal. And as far as the nyquil I know it has sugar but at this point I really dont care due to the pain–its the only thing that will give me relief.

(107) Leah says:

Last Thursday, had a slight headache in the evening; didn’t think much of it because I did much work that day (reading/studying/papers) plus didn’t have much sleep (2-3hrs) the night before. Around 3 am, woke up and headache was still prevalent; I thought after sleeping, from what may have been tired eyes, would relieve my discomfort. However, went back to sleep…the next morning was horrific…I had the absolute worst headache of my life. I have never experienced such pain; I thought perhaps I was having a migraine, due to extreme noise and light sensitivity; later that day I started to experience fever, chills, and body aches with horrible lethargy. It was the second day that I started to experience a relentless cough; this cough became productive today with yellowish sputum; I am still ill (my third day) and after waking up in night sweats for the past 3 days, I’m thinking it may be time to see my doctor. I still feel like a zombie, like the world is spinning on its axis and I am somehow paused in misery. Anyhow, just thought I would share my experience.

Similar symptoms – aches, sore eyes, alternating chills and fever, general tiredness, sinuses are going flat out 24/7, and cough related to that, food tastes bad, farting a lot (more than usual). Spouse and workmates have also been sick. I was chilled before so went to bed with a hot water bottle – now I’m too hot.

I’m on day 3. My girlfriend is on day 7. I haven’t been sick in over a decade. And this virus is nasty. Starts off with coughing. Next morning there is a tinge of blood in mucus from sinus. Bad head and body aches. Loss of appetite.feels like muscles are ripping apart from bones. Similar to shin splints. Last night could not breathe well and thought I wad having a heart attack. Behind my ribs were sore. having a hard time focusing with vision. Cold chills to body sweats.

my girlfriend ended up in emergency. And they thought she had tb. Put her in isolation. Ran blood test and xrays. All negative. Said she has a virus. But only gave her pain killers.ibuprofen & mapap. Told her that her body needs to fight it off on its own. Antibiotics would weaken the immune the next time around. So we are hurting for now.

Generic night time cough medicine helps. Ricola does not. Also we were told that migraine medicine is not good. I know this because even though the headaches are bad they are not migraine category. Take ibuprofen instead. But you may fut allot or have stomache cramping if no food eaten prior.

For me it started at night, it was as if something attacked my throat. I did the normal things I do for a cold, Nyquil, Vapor rub, wrap in towel to sweat it out. That did nothing. That night I had to go into work for a few hours,so back under the air I went. I came home and had the worst night yet. I coughed ALL NIGHT LONG even with drinking the Nyquil. Chicago, 45 year old female.
Started with mild sore throat Friday afternoon. Saturday morning, wracking lower back and hip pain, sore throat an order of magnitude worse, fever even with ibuprofen and acetaminophen 101.4. No chest congestion, small amount of yellow mucous when blowing nose. Only on day two, feel so rotten I want to cry! (I’m no crybaby either) And this even though I diligently get my flu shots. Sigh.

I just caught what appears to be the flu July 28th-Today I have had it for 6 days and I still feel awful. In the beginning I had insanse chills (I actually sat on the deck where it was over 120 and it took me a long time to warm up.- and then dripping sweat. Very dizzy and a weird feeling around my eyes. I slept for 12 hours straight in the day! Two days into it I developed the knife head ache and the ice pick earache. that is still going on 4 days later. Still weak but the last two days I am making myself move more as I missed an entire week of work. ( I have missed one day in 5 years)
The weirdest past of this is my legs and arms are so sore that if feels like I have been pressing weights.
I did Epson Salt.
My Doctor advised my to waited 7 days and then come in if “you are not feeling better”. I am getting betting but so slowly. I am a health freak and never get sick so this is a little alarming. Even My jaw is stiff when I try to eat.-so far I am the only one at work who has this.
I can’t wait till I get better!!!!

How do you get the flu in August? I don’t know if this is the flu or some other virus but it’s awful. Started with the headache for the first day or two, and then wam! hit my chest so hard it hurt. Relentless nonstop coughing, upset stomach, diarrhea. Went to the doctor’s who gave me codeine cough medicine, which is only helping slightly, but at least I can catch a few hours of sleep now between the coughing. Doctor also gave me a script for Amoxicillin if it didn’t seem as though I was getting better in a few days. I have now filled the prescription and started taking it. I can’t believe I went from perfectly healthy to nonstop coughing, headache, and diarrhea, body aches and pains, and this has been 8 days now, and I’ve missed four days of work. I’m actually starting to wonder why the hell am I so sick? This is the first year I missed getting a flu shot in 10 years!

Went to the doctor and he did strep test and I don’t know the results but he didn’t want to give me another antibiotic because I just finished Cephalexin, so you wouldn’t think it would be an infection. I just want to sleep and be able to swallow. I’m on day 3 of this mess.

Started Thursday afternoon. I felt extremely tired and took a nap. Woke up with fever of 101.7 and extreme body aches. Began developing a dry unproductive cough. Friday morning woke up feeling just as awful but tried to go to work. Stayed only an hour before the headache and exhaustion set in. Higher fever, chills, body ache and cough. Went to doctor who prescribed cough syrup and told me to take Tylenol. Saturday body aches subsided a bit and fever came and went. Cough began being productive with yellow mucus but hurts to cough. Sunday was the same. Thought I was feeling better today and tried to go have lunch to get out of the house. Came home exhausted, couldn’t stop coughing and vomited a little. Took a nap and woke up with the fever back at 100.4. Vomited again even though I didn’t really eat anything at lunch. Have had no appetite. (135) Cathy Gipple says:

Hi There.
I want to add an experience which may or may not help to answer some flu like illnesses.
A few years ago I was on holiday in Majorca with my children and on the last day of my week, I suddenly felt like I had been knocked down by a bus. My back muscles were aching and I had a stiff neck with flu-like symptoms with a blistering headache and my limbs were aching so badly I didn’t know if I was able to get home. I am not a sun worshipper and generally am very careful not to be in direct sunlight for too long. Any way, naturally I thought I had got sunstroke and just about managed to get home. I was flat on my back for about 2 weeks and getting a lot worse especially the head aches and the aching upper back muscles. I then woke up with a rash on my lower back which I was told was shingles. I was given acciclovir 800mg for a week and gradually I felt like a human again. This now happens every time I go out in any hot sunlight and then the flu symptoms appear again and occasionally the rash returns. I have since found out that the rash is not Herpes VOSTER it is the SIMPLEX which I caught from an uncleaned solarium which I used to prep my skin twice before going away -Which I will never use again! This experience has banned me from going in to the sun on holiday and as some herpes sufferers know, STRESS can also bring this on as well. These symptoms do not produce a cold/cough or swollen glands in my case, but I feel absolutely exhausted for about 10 days solid and my back/neck ache and headaches are the worst symptoms. The treatment for this really helps me otherwise I think I would have dug a large hole at the bottom of the garden by now! Not a pleasant experience. I have to be very careful gardening and keep myself completely covered up. Natural herbal L-lysene taken regularly can also help. Hope this information helps someone out there!
All the best.

I hope this is helpful to someone out there?

In 2011 I had the flu in September, October, November, December and January 2012. It is the end of September 2012 and I have it again. I never once had the flu until one year my grandmother talked me into getting a flu shot. Well I didn’t get the flu that year but I never got another shot either. In 2009 when flu season hit I got the flu once and every year I get the flu more times than the last year! How can I make this stop without being injected with government drugs? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

(137) lara says:

Im not sure if this was the flu or just a “change of weather” virus. Symptoms are: stomach cramps with lose stool to diarrhea for 1-2 days, dry mouth, nasal congestion then proceeds to 2 days of coughing to the point of throwing up, a constant feeling of nausea, sore throat and runny nose. Low grade fever on or around day 2-3. Day 3-4 has insane headaches and slight feeling of nausea. The whole time there are body aches. Symptoms stop around day 4-6.
I used a cold medication from Dollar General called Daytime Cold Head Congestion Severe. Ingredients include: Acetaminophen, Phenylephrine HCI, Dextromethorphan HBr and Guaifenesin (active ingredient in Mucinex) and I also used TheraFlu in the purple box (apple cinn flavor) which relieved the headache, bodyaches and sore throat. It is mixed with hot water to drink. I recommend putting 1 packet TheraFlu and 1 packet Alpine Hot Cider mix into a cup of water to dull down the medicinal taste and make it more palletable.
For diahhrea, the Dollar General store brand extra strength helped tremendously.
I also drank plenty of warm fluids (herbal teas with honey) and coffee to help with the sore throat.
This worked on me, my husband and my 5 children (oldest 17 and youngest 11) as well as 3 of my friends that caught the this.
Hope this information helps!

Had a fever that i am pretty sure broke over night. Have had terrible nausea and some diarrhea, im super tired and cant find a way to stay warm. I am constantly feeling cold and i cant seem to make my throat stop hurting. I have been taking tylenol multi symptom and that stuff tastes like scope :p. Will have to miss Thanksgiving this year, can’t stand the thought of being around food. This is the longest I’ve had the flu. Taking probiotics, and Emer’gen-C – Electro Mix to try and replace the electrolites I’m so depleted of. In a nut shell, I’m getting the flu sht next year.

(145) Kay says:

5 Days and counting still….

Day One (Monday) Started with a dry, scratchy sore throat. Day Two, it has moved into my sinuses (sneezing and nose running) -ftoward the end of the day, the inside of my ears were tickling and I couldn’t scratch them!. Day Three it expanded down into my chest (cough/congestion) partnered with fatigue and headaches – my sinus has become further inflamed which has caused blocked ears. Mucus has built up in my ears, nose and chest- nothing has begun to move out. Day Four was Thanksgiving Day – so I got a ton of rest.

At first, I thought it was a cold but now think it’s the flu. My husband is one – two days ahead of me symptom-wise. He had worse chest congestion – less in the sinus. It is now Friday morning (Day Five) and I have not yet begun to feel any relief. I hope it doesn’t last much longer.

(146) Jason says:

This is the worst cold/flu/whatever that I’ve had in years.

I’m 2 weeks in now.

Started on Saturday night the 10th, felt flushed and vaguely nauseated. Pulse was racing. I’ve been under a lot of stress so I figured it was just being run down.

Sunday the 11th felt a little better in the morning, got up and worked out. By afternoon it felt like my chest was full of ick. Couldn’t pull in a full breath. Tired, fever, etc. Cough wasn’t productive untilI took some Mucinex and coughed up a little. Mostly white, nothing to write home about. Of course Monday was my first day on the new job, so now I was more than a little stressed.

Monday came, and with it ribcage/abdominal pain. I had a cough, and coughing hurt my lower ribcage and upper abdomen. Tuesday was more of the same – really tired, coworkers said “you look terrible, go home”. Wednesday I had had enough and left work at lunchtime to go to the doctor.

Told her the symptom list – fever was gone, but chest/abdomen pain, cough, lungs felt full, pulse was up. She listened to my chest, said I had a cold for sure… but also put me on an EKG because my pulse was racing.

EKG showed nothing unusual, so she told me to get rest, pronounced me dehydrated and cold-ridden, and sent me home.

Since then I’ve been up and down. Pulse is still higher than normal, still coughing up crap, still alternating between “I feel fine” and “exhausted”. One minute, walking up a flight of stairs leaves me winded and tired. The next, I’m out raking the yard and feeling ok.

My parents (who I saw 2 weeks before this came on) are STILL sick from this, and they got it a couple weeks before I did. They both needed Z-packs, I may go back to the doctor and ask about it even though I hate taking antibiotics.

Whatever this is, it’s lingering and pissing me off, and making me concerned that it’s more than it is – the worst cold in years.

(147) simone says:

I think got this thing from my parents. My mother finally went to the hospital and was told that she has the “3.5 week flu” and is just seeing signs of relief. I have yet to reach the point…every time I think that I’m getting better… NOPE! The next day I feel worse!

Started off with some random sneezing. Nothing frequent or to write home about. Graduated to a dry cough a few days later. Thought I was starting I catch a cold. That cough has continued and worsened to the point of causing abdominal/diaphragm pain/discomfort. I am now hoarse as well. I can barely sleep because I’m coughing every minute. Tried all kinds of over-the-counter meds, nothing helps. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now, (but the worse of it has been over this past week).

A few days ago, I got up and felt a little better. I thought I was on my way to being out if the woods–NOPE. That’s when the head pain started. It only hurt when I coughed, which was still often enough to be annoying but it was bearable. Yesterday, I FINALLY started to actually cough up phlegm, which would have been encouraging, had it not been for the fact that the head pain had now graduated to a headache on the right side.

Today, I’m coughing less, but my head feels like its splitting on the right sde. It hurts to move. It’s from behind my eyebrow to behind my ear to down my neck to my shoulder, (the worst of it is felt behind my eyebrow and in my ear). I am finding I difficult to sleep, as moving is painful, even when done slowly. The only relief I have found throughout all the discomfort has been when I take a hot shower.!!!!

Damn it!

Came home went start to bed, went walk in doctor and the doc prescribed combo amoxicillin potassium valvular ate combo and I’ve been taking that for 2 days. The symptoms are pretty much the same as other porters headache, sore throat, extreme fatigue, stomach upset, diarrhea. It’s Sunday night nov 26 and I reluctantly say I starting to feel a little better, the symptoms seem to wax and wain. Now l hope that my crossfire is totaled, it has 9k in damage so far and the repair shop say that there may be other issues that they can’t see till they pull off the damaged parts, another 2k and it a total loss.

Not sure what this is….. Gulf Coast crud? I started feeling yucky in the tummy on Thursday night. Worked normal day Friday, and still a little rumble that afternoon. By that evening I was on FIRE. That given….. I was in the fetal position for the next 8 to 10 hours getting up only to drink LOTS of water and handle the GI issues. 3 days later and I feel okay with the exception I still don’t have any other symptoms other than not being able to stay off the toilet?????? Food poisoning or the FLU?

(160) Vilna says:

I think there’s an outbreak involving major chest congestion preceded or accompanied by hoarseness but there is nothing on the CDC website about this.

It seems like I’ve been sick forever. If you count the hoarseness — which started everything off with no other symptoms it is about a month.

Just today someone at work lost his voice and another acquaintance of my also said he had lost his voice and was fighting off a cold.

Within about two weeks of the hoarseness I was coughing so much at times that I could hardly breath. My chest and ribcage hurt. I was experiencing major pressure on my chest as if someone was sitting on me. I had pain both in my chest and in my back as if someone was shoving a knife through me.

This congestion is the worst I have ever had. It triggered an asthma attack where I had to rush to the hospital and receive breathing treatments. I was also given an antibiotic and steroids. But after two weeks I was not improving and my breathing was still very labored. My primary said she was troubled by my lack of improvement and she started me on a new antibiotic – Cipro — and an aggressive course of steroids.

I am now much better but I still have traces of a cold and I am terrified of recatching this nasty bug from someone and starting this nightmare all over again.

Hi my husband has been sick for 2 weeks now and nothing seems to be helping. At first it started with fever, hot/cold flashes, chest congestion (producive at first), body aches, and just general misery. These symptoms went on for 1 week ant which point he though he was feeling 80% better or so. Unfortunately by the next day it seemed to come back with a vengence. Now for the last 4 days hes been complaining of feeling like he has fluid in his lungs, but poss could be the congestion???? I do realize that it could mean pneumonia or “walking” pneumonia and was wondering when, in your opinion, do you begin to think that someone might have pneumonia? I appreciate your feedback-Thank You!!!!

Kimberly, I’m sorry your husband still isn’t feeling better! Based on the course of his symptoms that you described, it sounds like he needs to go back to the doctor. A major indicator for a secondary infection or complication from the flu, a cold or any other illness, is the fact that he felt mostly better, then his symptoms worsened. It sounds like he was starting to recover from the illness that he had then he developed a secondary infection of some sort. It’s hard to say whether it’s pneumonia, bronchitis or something else, but since he is not better, he needs to see his health care provider. I hope this helps!

Felt really tired on Monday, went to bed early last night…grumpy with a horrible headache and tightness in my chest – took mucinex fast-max and ibupropin and slept ok, but by this writing I am running a temp of 100.3 and it hurts to cough. No appetite. I am 53 – two hip replacements in 2010 and wonder if I should get on antibiotics to stop the spread of infection?

I am fairly healthy HIV+ individual. On Wednesday morning I woke up with severe chills – which I knew was not normal as I live in South Florida and outside temperature was 78 degrees. Went to work, but my boss saw how sick I looked and sent me home. By Wednesday evening, fever was at 102.8 and would not break – not even with OTC meds. Had horrible headache, sore throat, terrible body aches. Woke up several times during the night feeling nauseated. Thursday felt even worse – fever stayed around 101 – 102 all day – slept most of the day (as much as I could feeling as bad as I did). Cough started coming on – from depths of my chest. Fever started breaking – lots of sweating – than would come back again – than break – than back again….. Same routine on Friday. Most of today (Saturday), I have started feeling a little bit better…. Still don’t have an appetite; still coughing; still have slight body aches, but fever has gone down and stayed down. Hopefully, I am through the worst of this. Seems to me like I have a textbook case of the flu.

I woke up 1 week ago last Friday morning with a tickle in my throat and a post-nasal drip. Felt mostly well on Saturday but coughed a few times. Felt a little tired Sunday and then Sunday night I came down with fever and chills. Took 6 Advils, went to work and gradually felt a little better. Felt entirely well on Tuesday and then on Wednesday started having extreme sinus congestion, some fever and fatigue. Today is Friday and I am still having extreme sinus congestion. Since I am at work, I am taking Zyrtec, Coricidin, Mucinex, and using Afrin nasal spray to control the congestion.

I was really tired yesterday, but passed it off for the late nights of the holidays. Felt a tad dizzy though and had a tight feeling in my chest. Woke up today with a tickle in my throat but no big deal. This afternoon in about a two hour span my cough worsened, chest became sore and Chet, sore throat, feverish feeling to the point where it hurts to have anything touch my body and the worst body aches ever. This is the first time I’ve had the flu since I was five I’m now 23. Please tell me it’s easy to get over if you’re healthy.

was fine Christmas day, woke up the 26th feeling a little crappy, then rapidly got worse. Chills, fever, body ache, dry cough, no appetite and so tired.Took Ibuporphen, no effect, fever climbed so high I was hallucinating, huge headache. Took Tylenol Cold & Flu Severe and finally began to sweat and feel better, headache gone, chills gone and head clear. After that nose began to run, cough became worse producing little phelm, but still better than earlier. Woke up now with chills and fever again, took tylenol cold and flu, symptoms have lessoned. That truck that hit me, it was HUGE!

Got my dose of flu sx Christmas Eve. The worst is over. I don’t remember much about the past three days. I have not had anything to eat for 3 days except toast and I drink water. Nausea, fever 102.7, sweats, vomiting, diarrhea, aches, lightheaded, congestion…..etc. and I received the flu shot in November 2012

I KNOW I had the flu for over a week. Headaches, lack of energy, even in the midst of Christmas, congestion, coughing. My husband went to the store and got expectorant, ZZzzQuil, and Cough/Cold which I took in various combinations. I laid down for several naps during day. I had anywhere from 99.0 to 100.7 fever-if you can call that a fever and expected it to continue on up. Fever was in the morning sometimes, and then it switched to nighttime. Hard to predict. But then, after taking aspirin it broke, and am left with incredibly low energy and continue the naps and ZZzzQuil. It’s lasted 2 weeks…we’ll see how much longer it lasts. Cough also continues, even with expectorant. Good luck everyone on getting through this season!

Oh, I did get the flu vaccine about 2 months ago and I didn’t get sick to my stomach except twice during the afternoons. I also could not eat anything except green tea, a few bites of popcorn, small bites of dinner, and milk (which I don’t think I would have had had I had stomach problems).

This is my 7th day dealing with the monster!! Bad headaches, inability to stand without feeling weak and dizzy with 0 appetitite. Fever reached 105 and it had me feeling drugged. I also had the sweats to the 5th degree. I mean my whole bed was wet and Im not that big of a guy. I took plenty of niquil, tylenol and some old oxy pills from a past surgery to help relieve all this mess. I just returned to work today.

Seeing as this is a flu site. You are contagious for a spam of 13 days Before you even show symptoms and after. Start doing yourself and the world around you a favour. Please stay away from others while you are sick. It is a wives tale that passing it in relieves you faster. It is unfair to make people who are well ill. I’m not trying to be mean to those who are ill, but it is true. Some of us catch the slightest thing and if you have flu symptoms., unless you are burning up an uncontrollable fever and can’t stay hydrated you should not be at the emerge or walk ins or doctors offices. There is no real cure other than bed rest hydration and controlling your temperature. Keep if too yourself and remember to air out your house for a half hour each day e en in winter. The flu shot does not prevent the flu it only helps your body to ward of severe complications that can occur while you are sick. Such as pneumonia. If people learned to stay away from others these flues would not continue to strengthen and spread as much as they do. The flu is not like some virus’s where you get it and become immune. So stop treating it as such. Always keep meds at home so you do not have to go shopping while sick and touching everything and spreading your germs. Signed by someone who has had the flu only by catching it from inconsiderate people who go to emergency rooms with flues not thinking there may be people who have heart pancreas or spleen diabetes and other conditions that yes even with immunizations catch your pesky flu and get so severely sick for up to two to four months at a time due to complications from your infectious disease that Within 4to 9 days goes away as fast as it came on and doctors can’t help you get rid of anyways!

It’s December 31, 2012. Came down with symptoms yesterday. By mid morning, I was coughing and feeling heavy in the chest. Lungs felt mucousy. By evening I had a full blown fever which raged throughout the night and all the next day (today). During my fever I also had a pounding headache and an awful cough which made my throat raw. Took over the counter meds, didnt help with any symptom. About 32 hours after symptom onset fever finally broke. Still have nasty cough, stuffy nose but aching and weakness and headache are gone. Feel a lot better already.

Oh my goodness, I am reading through this and feeling like I am not losing my mind. I swear I have been sick 2 months now. I started with a run of the mill sinus infection with fever. Got an antibiotic which seemed to help. Then it hit me. Hard and fast. I was coughing my lungs up. My back hurt. I went to the dr. because I couldn’t stand it anymore. She gave me a very strong antibiotic that you take once a day for 10 days.

On day 9 I awoke in the middle of the night with a sore throat that I haven’t had since I had strep as a kid. I called the dr and they were booked. They told me to go to urgent care. Urgent care dr said it is unlikely to be anything bacterial because of the antibiotic that I was taking. He told me to give it a few more days and gave me a different antibiotic to take – only if I still felt bad.

Well that was almost 1 week ago. My cough turned productive and since then I have been coughing and coughing and coughing. I feel better one day and then the next I feel like crap again. Fortunately I am inbetween jobs so I can rest but, that is ALL that I can do is sleep. I really don’t want to start the 2nd antibiotic but I am so tired of being sick. I am almost wondering if taking the antibiotics in the 1st place caused this to drag on?

I know that they say the cough is the last part of it as it’s the body’s way of expelling the bug but seriously?? I’m about to lose my mind!

I appreciate any suggestions…

25 year old female.

I can’t say for sure that I have the flu, but my symptoms seem to match flu symptoms. Here’s what it’s been like for me, so that those of you with flu/suspicious of flu can compare symptoms:

Dec 31: went to New Year’s Eve party, felt fine. 4 am: throat hurt.
Jan 1 (day 1): Fever (99.7, down to 99.0 at night), vomiting (body only kept water down – no tea, no juice, no airborne, just water), achey muscles, swollen lymph nodes in neck, and sore throat. Cried A LOT, because I felt so sick and so discouraged.
Jan 2 (day 2): Fever for part of day, still swelling in neck, throat hurt more, difficult to swallow without pain. Couldn’t talk, since throat hurt so bad.
Jan 3 (day 3): Same as day 2, except I felt fine in morning. Evening was when I experienced the other symptoms. Took ~4 hrs to fall asleep because my throat hurt so much.
Jan 4 (day 4/today): Totally fine in morning, first day I could talk without hurting. Starting feeling bad around 4 pm; Fever in evening (100.1), neck is tender, throat still hurts (no white spots, not strep?), yellowish mucus.

My biggest things from days 2 – 4 have been that I’m fine in the morning and during the day, but in the evening, my fever comes back, and my throat hurts badly, making it hard to swallow. I haven’t gone to the doctor (I like to try to take care of myself until it gets severe enough to see the doctor). I’ve tried throat coat tea, airborne, vit c + zinc + echinacea (taken together), oil of oregano, throat spray, and finally sips of whiskey tonight before going to bed so that I can fall asleep without my throat hurting. Tonight (day 4) is when I started getting HUNGRY. It hurts to swallow, but hey, hunger is a pretty good sign when you are recovering.

Like I said, since I haven’t been to the doctor, I can’t say I have flu for sure. But, if you have the flu (or if you are just sick), now you can compare your symptoms with someone else’s.

this hit me Christmas day,no sore throat, but an immediate cough ,felt like a big ball of wheezy congestion in left lung area. Then I has a massive headache, migrane type for three days.also had vomiting ,diarrhea ,could not even eat or drink any thing,it became so bad that I had to go to hospital and get IV fluids. Another thing was my lower left back has been in extreme pain since this started, and nothing is reliveing it.I am feeling some better now,12 days later, but still have terrible cough and this back pain. If you haven’t had this try to stay well, this is almost deadly in nature

Oh. Well. Those symptoms match mine to a T…
I always thought the flu consisted of being violently ill and rife with constant visits to the vomit bucket. Because those were exactly the symptoms I had the single solitary time I got the flu when I was eleven…

I’ve always had a pretty tough immunity and never bothered getting a flu shot, even when everyone said this year it was really bad and I should definitely get one.

Guess they were all right on that one, but it’s too late now… now I’ll just have to deal with it, I guess…

(178) Kathy says:

Started a week ago with post nasal drip and tickle in throat. The next day began very high fever and all over body pain. Also bad headache, swollen throat, extreme chest congestion with rattling and wheezing but unproductive cough. Lots of weakness, no appetite, etc. but no nausea. I think folks reporting nausea and diarrhea probably have norovirus.

Extremely sore ribs and abdomen from coughing. Took Mucinex at first but stopped because the cough was unproductive and painful. Aspirin has helped bring temps down. Putting a cold cloth on my forehead and face has given relief for pain as well as lowering skin temp. Drinking lots of water and hot tea now. This is day seven and the chest congestion, coughing with some production, weakness, and abdominal pain continue. Feeling marginally better and fever seems to be gone at the moment.

I’m lucky to be retired so can stay home. However, I wish those who have symptoms would not go to work! You are just spreading it around and endangering people like me who have age and health issues that make the flu even more dangerous.
