Have You Had the H1N1 Vaccine?

By , About.com Guide   December 26, 2009

Follow me on:

The CDC is estimating that nearly 60 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine have been administered in the United States. Unfortunately, officials have said that millions more need to get the vaccine to provide adequate protection against the 21st century's first flu pandemic.

I know many people were hesitant to get it when it first came out and with the recent recalls of some pediatric doses, some of those fears have been reignited. Personally, I am more concerned about my youngest son getting the virus because he is at high risk for complications, so we have all had the vaccine. My kids will have to go back to get their booster dose in a few weeks.

I do realize that not everyone feels the way I do about the vaccine. When I took a poll earlier in the flu season, a majority of people were not planning to get it. I am curious to see if that has changed. Have you or your family had the vaccine?

Here in Quebec,Canada our Minister of Health took
an active role in setting up vaccination centers
throughout the province. The vaccine was distributed
initially to those group(s) deemed at risk and then
there was a schedule established to cover those groups that remained.
The Health Ministry did an excellant job!

Here in Massachusetts, as of today, most of the planned shipments have been shipped. Yet, it seems Doctor’s offices are running short of the Vaccine, or never got any.
The major drug store chains don’t have any of the H1N1 Vaccine, and the towns in the commonwealth don’t administer to them to anyone that lives outside of said particular town
Although the vaccine are now supposedly being given to anyone that wants one, it’s a major chore to find out where they are being offered.
It’s my prediction that once again, most of the vaccine will have to be disposed of at the end of the season, and not for lack of interest
