H1N1 Swine Flu Update

Saturday June 6, 2009

Cases of H1N1 swine flu continue to spread across the US and the globe.

United States

As of Friday, June 5th, the CDC is reporting 13,217 confirmed and probable cases and 27 deaths. There have now been confirmed cases in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The number of cases in each state vary greatly. Part of the reason for this may be different standards on testing. Some states are testing a great number of people while others are testing only the few who are very sick.

Worldwide

Throughout the world, 69 countries have reported cases of H1N1 swine flu. The official count throughout the world is 21,940, including 125 deaths. Most of the deaths have occurred in Mexico. However, there have also been deaths in the US, Canada, Costa Rica and Chile.

The WHO still has not raised the global flu pandemic alert level. At this time, we remain at a flu pandemic phase 5.
