Today the govt says to avoid using Zicam.I’ve used it in the past and don’t know if it had any effect on my sense of smell.Maybe it would reduce obesity in the U.S. if people had less sense of smell and couldn’t enjoy foods as much since smell and taste are related.
I have found Zicam to be one of the most effective cold remedies on the shelf. I always use the kind your spray in your mouth. It does effect your taste buds, but just while you are using it, temporarily making lots of foods taste strange. But this is a fully reversible, short term effect.
If the nasal version is suspect, just avoid that one product. There are other quite pleasant and effective Zicam options. Don’t give Zicam a totally bad rap, it’s a GREAT product.
We’ve used the nasal swabs for years, with no problem. When they were pulled from the shelves, we tried the mouth spray, and indeed my daughter did temporarily lose her sense of smell. I’ve been trying to find an online source for the nasal swabs (not the allergy relief, but the cold remedy) and have found nothing. Help?
