Protect the Ones You Love - Get a Flu Shot

Thursday September 18, 2008

I recently gave birth to my second child and having a newborn in the house again reminds me of the importance of keeping the whole family healthy. I do everything I can to keep my family healthy anyway, but now we have a new member who is especially vulnerable to serious illnesses.

So just this week my husband, my older son and I all got our flu shots. Since children under 6 months old can't get a flu shot, it's even more important for those of us living with him to get our vaccinations to make sure we don't get the flu and expose him to it. I will also be encouraging his grandparents and other people who will be around him frequently to be vaccinated against the flu.

If you live with or are frequently around a child under 6 months old, someone who has a weakened immune system, older adults who are at high risk for complications from the flu or someone who can't get a flu vaccine, be sure you get vaccinated this year to protect them and yourself.
