What's With all the Antibiotics?

Monday September 17, 2007

Recent reports show that doctors are still overprescribing antiobitics for viral illnesses despite the multitude of research that shows this is harmful. An overwhelming amount of these prescriptions are written either because patients demand them or doctors believe the patients expect them. In my job, I can see firsthand that a lot more education is needed about when an antibiotic is needed and when it is not, especially when it comes to children.

So, I want to know what your feelings are about this problem. When do you believe an antiobitic is necessary? Have you ever demanded that your doctor give you one without asking what he thought first? Vote in the poll and share your experience or your thoughts in the comments section.
